8.7- Optimists collide in Smith's Creek

The Optimist fleet has been busy for the past couple of months teaching kids how to sail.

The Optimist dinghies are featured in two previous posts, one of the naming ceremony and blessing of the Optimists on June 1, and then two pictures of the boats sailing, taken from shore on June 9.

Today I rode up the bridge over Smith's Creek to get some better views of the Optimists in action, and caught this slight collision as the kids were practicing tacking.

6.09- Oriental Optimists

Here is the new Optimist fleet in its first week of action here in Oriental. About a dozen boats built by local craftsworkers with local business sponsorship, these little vessels went to work this week teaching the next generation of sailors to tack and jibe.

This picture was taken at the end of today's sailing, as Optimists come in one by one to be hauled out at the Wildlife Ramp on Smith's Creek.
